The Legendary Chicago Bulls
Since 1966, the Chicago Bulls have been delighting fans everywhere. Today the team has one of the best known names, even among non-basketball fans.
As the third team to play pro-ball in Chicago, the Bulls made history during their first season by having the best season on record for an expansion team. They did well the first few years, although they never got to the finals, despite a division title.
After several years spent at the bottom of the league, the Chicago Bulls drafted Michael Jordan, forever changing the face of basketball in Chicago. Jordan, along with other new players added over the next few years turned the team around, taking them to the division playoffs and even the semi-finals.
Finally, in the 1990-1991 season the Bulls won the finals for the first time, starting a winning streak that would last three seasons. They managed another three game streak, also in the 1990’s, during which time they also won more games in one season than any other team.
1998 was Michael Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls and was the beginning of another rough era for the team. Although they had several losing years, their record seems to be improving.
In 1994, the Bulls moved into their third and current home, the United Center. With seating for more than 20,000, the arena is the largest in the US, although they do not have the most seating.
This season fans have something extra to be excited about. The 300 level has undergone extensive renovations adding 144 flat screens and a couple of bars that give a full view of the court. Of course, like other arenas, the United Center also hosts other events such as concerts, and is home to Chicago’s hockey team as well.
Of course a team like the Chicago Bulls could not exist this long without creating a few rivals. Their rivalry with the Miami Heat has been resurrected as the Bulls become championship contenders again and the rivalry with the Cavaliers lasted throughout the late eighties and early nineties.
Of course, their main rivals are now and have always been the Detroit Pistons. Both members of the Central Division, the Bulls and Pistons are known for their intense games on the court, and the fans’ intense dislike of each other off the court, especially on Chicago’s side. Detroit is the only city in which all four professional sports share a division with Chicago, contributing to the rivalry even more.
Chicago Bulls games are always a good time and are enjoyed by all. Probably one of the most successful and well known teams in the league, they have done more than perhaps any other team to spread the fame and popularity of the sport and the league.
